Bumper scuffs are the single most common repair we're called out to. Corner scrapes from tight parking, drop-kerb rubs, supermarket trolleys, other people's doors in car parks — plastic bumpers pick up damage constantly, and the good news is they're almost always cheap to put right.
Here's what bumper scuff repair actually costs in the UK in 2026, from a small corner scrape through to a cracked bumper and a full respray.
Bumper scuff repair cost UK — 2026 pricing
- Small corner scuff (up to credit-card size): roughly £120–£180
- Larger scuff or multiple areas on one bumper: roughly £180–£280
- Deep scratch with paint through to plastic: roughly £200–£320
- Cracked bumper repair (plastic weld) + respray: roughly £280–£450
- Full bumper respray (badly damaged / multiple areas): roughly £350–£550
- Bumper replacement (parts + paint + fit): £600–£1,200+ depending on car
Prices are for standard solid or metallic paint on a car-park scuff, done mobile on your driveway. Pearl, tri-coat or heavily-faded colours can add a little for extra blend time.
What kind of bumper damage do you actually have?
1. Light scuff (paint transfer only)
The bumper has a mark from another car's paint or from a wall, but there's no gouge and no cracked plastic. Often this looks worse than it is and can be reduced dramatically with clay + polish, before deciding if it needs painting at all.
2. Corner scuff (paint gone, plastic showing)
This is the classic kerb scrape — the paint is missing at the corner and you can see the raw plastic underneath. Textbook SMART repair: mask, prep, primer, base coat, blend, lacquer, flat and polish. Usually £120–£180 and finished on your drive in 2–3 hours.
3. Deep scratch or gouge
The scratch is deep enough that you can catch your nail in it. Needs light filling before prep — otherwise the same process as above. £200–£320 depending on length.
4. Cracked bumper
A crack — usually from a low-speed knock or reversing into a post — needs plastic welding from behind before the front face can be filled, sanded, primed and painted. £280–£450 for most cracks. If the bumper is snapped or the mounting tabs are gone, replacement is usually the answer.
5. Full bumper respray
Multiple scuffs, several areas of paint damage or faded/lacquer-peeling bumper skin — at that point it's often more cost-effective to prep and respray the whole bumper as one panel. £350–£550 gets you a factory-fresh finish on the whole bumper.
Bumper repair vs bumper replacement
Repair almost always wins on price:
- A replacement bumper for a modern car is typically £300–£700 for the part alone, before paint or fitting.
- Add primer, paint, lacquer and fitting labour and you're comfortably £600–£1,200+.
- Modern bumpers also carry sensors, cameras and washer jets — all of which have to be transferred and often re-calibrated.
Unless the bumper is structurally destroyed or the mounts are broken, a proper repair is faster, cheaper and just as invisible.
Why a mobile bumper repair is usually cheapest
A traditional bodyshop will book your car in for 1–2 days, quote you for a full panel respray, and often add a courtesy car charge. A mobile mobile dent, scratch and scuff repair specialist prices for the actual damage, does the work on your driveway in a few hours, and doesn't need to move the car anywhere.
The finish is the same — same two-pack paint, same infrared cure, same colour-matched blend into the surrounding panel.
Is it worth claiming on insurance for a bumper scuff?
Almost never. Comprehensive excess is usually £250–£500, most bumper scuffs cost less than that to repair, and you'd lose your no-claims discount. For a car-park scuff, paying directly is almost always the smarter move — and you keep control of who does the work.
